Lifting
Lifting is the separation of one layer from another and occurs most commonly on composite or mixed media objects. When one medium shrinks or expands at a different pace than its substrate, it can lift and separate. Lifting can also be caused by failure of adhesion between a topcoat (such as paint or varnish) and substrate, or the weakening of an adhesive layer.
